Discipleship

Some thoughts about Discipleship from an MC DirectorHoly Bible

If I could define who and what we are as Master’s Commission, I would simply use the word discipleship. But that word is much like the word Christian. It has lost its edge. The word Christian no longer means someone who adheres to the teachings of Christ and takes up his cross daily. It seems today that anyone can use this word to define themselves. Likewise the word discipleship has been tainted and misused. To understand discipleship you have to go beyond a weekly Sunday School class. Discipleship is about ‘doing life’ with someone. True discipleship doesn’t happen in a classroom or in from the pulpit.

Discipleship happens at 1:30 in the morning on the way to the hospital. It happens with a hug after morale failure. It’s when you confront sin at the risk of ruining the relationship, because you know that in the end the truth will be what brings freedom. Discipleship is when you sit down and give one more chance, even though one isn’t deserved. Discipleship beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Discipleship is dirty. It reveals the ugliness of flesh and sin in our lives. Master’s commission is discipleship.

We are not performers we are ministers. We are not a drama team we are disciples. We are not janitors we are servants. We don’t rehab we train. We don’t just learn – we learn and do. We are not for those who can’t or won’t go to college- we are for those who want to change the world in ministry, business or any professional vocation. We are the willing. Willing to lay down our desires for His. Our prerequisite is this- to have the desire to serve God wholehearted, to desire His will above all else and to give your life to seek His kingdom first.
